Wyll's Pact in Baldur's Gate 3: Should You Break It?
Wyll, a warlock companion in Baldur's Gate 3, is stuck in a contract with the powerful demon Mizora. Eventually, Mizora gives Wyll a choice to break the contract, but at a steep price: his father's life. This raises the question: should you break Wyll's pact in Baldur's Gate 3?
Companion Quest: Blade of the Frontiers
Blade of the Frontiers is Wyll's companion quest, which involves the demon Karlach and Wyll's pact with Mizora. This quest is given as soon as Wyll becomes a companion, and it will require a good chunk of the game to complete, assuming you keep a good relationship with Wyll and complete his quests accordingly.
Breaking the Pact: Consequences and Rewards
If you choose to break Wyll's contract, Mizora will no longer have a hold on him, and he won't be damned to serve her in the future. However, there is a downside: Wyll will lose his powers after the Absolute has been dealt with, and his father will be doomed to die.
Fortunately, you can still save Wyll's father without Mizora's help. To do this, you'll need to complete the Save the Gondians and Avenge the Ironhands quests to find him.
Breaking Wyll's pact has its benefits, however. When the game concludes, Wyll will no longer have Mizora's powers, but he'll be a free man. He becomes the Blade of Avernus, protecting the Sword Coast in the best way possible: by being a good man.
What Happens to Wyll's Powers After Breaking the Pact?
According to Mizora, Wyll can continue to use his Warlock powers until the end of the game. After that, he will lose his powers, but he'll be free from her grasp.
Alternative: Saving Wyll's Father and Not Breaking the Pact
The alternative is to save Wyll's father and not break the pact. This will bind Wyll's soul to Mizora, forcing him to serve her after the campaign. However, his father will be saved, and Wyll will continue to have his powers.
Additionally, Wyll's father shares a secret with your party: a wyrm is beneath Baldur's Gate, and a hero can call upon it to save the city. You and Wyll can use this information to aid Baldur's Gate against the impending threat.
Which Option is Better?
Between the two options, breaking Wyll's pact is the best call. Although it may seem painful, it allows Wyll to be free from Mizora's grasp, and you can still save his father. Mizora's attempt to make it harder to save Wyll's father can be overcome by completing the required quests.
However, there is a downside to breaking the pact: Mizora sends out a group of spiders with explosive blood, making the escape from the Iron Throne more difficult.
