Gameplay Overview

Paper Shadows A-Foraging takes place during the Lantern Rite, Teyvat's equivalent of the Lunar New Year. Players will need to guide adorable characters Guoba and Yuegui to delicious food on a checkered board. The game introduces various mechanics, including movement limitations, obstacles, and the ability to control both characters.

Paper Shadows A-Foraging Rules

The rules of the game are straightforward: lead Guoba or Yuegui to the food on the board, avoiding obstacles and utilizing limited movement. Players can gain additional movement by retracing their steps, but cannot exceed the maximum movement limit per turn. Some objects on the board appear to be unmovable but can be used to the player's advantage.

Paper Shadows A-Foraging Day 1

On the first day, players are introduced to the game and can complete three puzzles. The first puzzle is simple, requiring players to move a wooden box blocking the path. The second puzzle introduces the concept of backtracking to solve the puzzle. The third puzzle requires strategic movement to reach the food.

First Puzzle

Move the wooden box blocking the path down by entering the square it occupies. The box will automatically move.

Second Puzzle

Push the wooden box into the key on the right to unlock the way to the food. Backtrack to reclaim movement, then move down to claim the prize.

Third Puzzle

Move behind the box to push it towards the key. Backtrack to reclaim movement, then push the box into the key. Open the way and move back to snag the food.

Paper Shadows A-Foraging Day 2

Day 2 introduces the mechanic of controlling both Guoba and Yuegui to reach the end goal. Players switch between characters using numbers.

Puzzle 1

Use Guoba to snag the key by moving the box into it. Then, move both Guoba and Yuegui to the food.

Puzzle 2

Use Guoba to move the nearest box into the blue key. Switch to Yuegui to move the closest box down. Switch back to Guoba to move the box into the red key. Switch to Yuegui to move the first box up towards the green key. Backtrack to move the box into the green key, then open the pathways for both characters.

Puzzle 3

Start with Yuegui to push the box underneath and left. Use Guoba to push the box down towards the blue key. Use both characters to move the other two boxes. Use Yuegui to move the first box into the red key, then open the way to finish the puzzle.

Paper Shadows A-Foraging Day 3

A new mechanic is introduced on the third day: pushing a character who is still in their starting cart with the other character.

Puzzle 1

Use Guoba and Yuegui to push each other in their carts to reach the keys. Once the keys are gathered, reaching the food prize is simple.

Puzzle 2

Use Yuegui to move the box in the bottom right closer to Guoba. Switch to Guoba to move the box up toward the blue key. Bring Guoba back to their starting cart, then use Guoba to move Yuegui to the left square. Use Yuegui to grab the red key. Push Guoba down while in the cart, then move both to the food prize.

Puzzle 3

Alternate between Guoba and Yuegui to move them around in their carts. Use Yuegui to snag the blue key first. Use Guoba to move the box down closer to Yuegui, then move Yuegui once to the right. Switch to Yuegui to move the box to get the green key. Return Yuegui to their cart, then use Guoba to move Yuegui left one square. Switch back to Yuegui to move Guoba one square to the right. Use Guoba to grab the red key. Bring Guoba back to their cart, then push Guoba to the left and switch to Guoba to move Yuegui in their cart to the right. Both will be able to reach the food prize.
