How to Emote in Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley's 1.4 patch update introduced a new function - Emoting. Although it's not a major change in the game, it's a welcome addition. In this article, we'll show you how to Emote in Stardew Valley and explore the different Emotes available.
Benefits of Emoting in Stardew Valley
Emoting in Stardew Valley can greatly enhance the roleplay side of the game while also speeding up communications when you are not using voice chat while playing the game. How to Open the Emote Menu and Emote in Stardew Valley
To emote in Stardew Valley, press the Y button on your keyboard (press and hold the right analog stick on the controller) to bring up the Emote menu. The Emote menu features eight emotions, including:
- Yes
- Happy
- Pause
- Sad
- No
- Angry
- Question
- Heart
Each Emote is displayed as an image on a wheel that surrounds your character. Hovering over an Emote will show you the animation, giving you an idea of how it will look like for other players in the game.

If the default Emote button is not working for you, don't worry. You can change it. To do this, follow these steps:
- Hit the Esc key to open the Options menu
- Go to the small controller icon (second to last on the right side)
- Scroll down until you see the Emote Menu: Y option underneath Controls
- Click the Set button and choose a new button to bring up the Emote radial map
