Destiny 2 Server Status: What's Happening to the Servers?
Destiny 2 is a live-service game that often experiences server issues, leaving you unable to access the game. You know there's a problem when you try to enter the game's menu, but it stops you in your tracks before you can even select your Guardian.
Why Does Destiny 2 Go Down?
There are several reasons why Destiny 2's servers may go down. As a live-service game with unique mechanics, it's not uncommon for servers to experience downtime due to a large influx of players, botched updates, or even bugs like the infamous Telesto glitch.
However, there are ways to check if the game is down for all players and what's causing the issue.
Is Destiny 2 Down Right Now?
At the time of writing, Destiny 2's servers are currently offline for maintenance in preparation for the Season of the Wish update. This update will introduce new mechanics to help extend the game's lifespan until The Final Shape expansion. Servers are expected to return online soon, but players may need to download an update file before they can resume playing.
The official Bungie Help Twitter account has announced the maintenance, but there's no official end time. The expected completion time is 11 AM PT, but we'll update this article with any new information as it becomes available.
