Completing the Return Rakath's Gold Quest in Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3 is packed with exciting quests, and one of the most intriguing ones is the Return Rakath's Gold quest. This quest begins when you witness the Stone Lord robbing the Counting House, and Rakath tasks you with returning the stolen gold.
How to Start the Return Rakath's Gold Quest
To start this side quest, head to the Counting House in the Lower City. If you're following Jaheira's The High Harper questline, you can talk to Rakath Glitterbeard at the front desk and receive a pass to access the lower vaults. Once you're in the vaults, you'll encounter a battle with bhaalist goons. Ensure Rakath survives the fight, and then talk to him to begin the Return Rakath's Gold quest.
Investigating the Crime Scene
After witnessing the robbery, investigate the crime scene by walking around the Counting House with your party. Search the entire bank, but focus on the vault, where you'll find the main clues. Your character or party member will notice the dirty floor and deduce that the Stone Lord escaped to the sewers.
Locating the Stolen Gold in the Sewers
To find the stolen gold, head to the Abandoned Cistern in the Lower City sewers. Enter the sewers through one of the manholes on the surface, such as the one to the right of the Baldur's Gate Waypoint. From the Undercity, move west with your party until you reach the sluice gate puzzle. Solve the puzzle to access the vault door below, where you'll encounter the Stone Lord and a fake Jaheira. Also, target the Zhentarim Agent, who has taken Rakath's gold.
Tips for Defeating the Zhentarim Agent
- Try to knock the Zhentarim agent out or kill them quickly to prevent them from escaping.
- If they escape, they'll head to the Guildhall. You can track them down and kill them in a battle with Zhentarim forces.
- If you accept the Zhentarim alliance, you'll need to pickpocket the agent to retrieve Rakath's gold.
Completing the Quest
Once you've obtained Rakath's gold, return it to Rakath at the Counting House to complete the quest. You'll receive a reward of 2,635 gold and the No.9 Vault Key, which grants access to an Elegant Studded Leather armor. Alternatively, you can choose to keep Rakath's gold for yourself.
Remember, the choice is yours. Will you complete the quest and receive the reward, or keep the gold for yourself?
